Altar Servers
After young people have received the sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion, they are invited to participate in the ministry of altar serving. Their major responsibility is to assist the priest during the celebration of the weekend masses. We have six teams with up to four youths per team.
Children's Liturgy of the Word
October 2009: You may have noticed Children's Liturgy has begun. There are 3 groups of children ages (3-5; 6-8; 9-11) who meet in the Parish Centre during the Liturgy of the Word. McE Galbreath is the catechist for the youngest group; Mike Oster for the middle group and Joanne Heffernan, Nada Vrany and Clara Hamory lead the older children. If you have a child who would like to participate, please feel free to bring them into the Parish Centre when the children leave the Church for their liturgy. If interested in helping, please call the office - 232-5347.
All children are invited to attend each week.
Eucharistic Ministers
This group of parishioners are Ministers of Communion. They assist in distributing Holy Communion under both species at the masses. Training and support is available for all new ministers.
Lectors
Parishioners are invited to participate in this ministry which involves proclaiming the Word of God in a reverential and meaningful manner at the masses. Training is provided for those who are new to this ministry and a Workbook for Lectors and Gospel Readers is made available to those involved. Lectors can expect to serve once every three or four weeks.
Music Ministries
There are two music ministries. One group of volunteers participates at the Saturday evening mass and the other group on Sunday mornings. The music ministries provide music for both masses and also join forces to prepare for other liturgical celebrations during the year. A pianist and singers are available every Saturday. Sunday morning liturgies incorporate voices, piano and guitars as well as percussion and other instruments as available. Both groups review their music just before their respective masses, and the Sunday choir rehearses (apart from the summer months) on Thursday evenings every second week. The coordinator selects the music and leads the practice. New musicians and singers are always welcome in both music ministries.
Prayers of the Faithful
Volunteers from the parish prepare the general intercessions for the weekend Masses. These prayers represent the intentions and prayers of the parish, reflect seasonal and current concerns and incorporate key themes from the Sunday readings and homily.
