Pastoral Plan
Our pastoral plan is a road map setting out where and how Canadian Martyrs Parish would like to grow as a community of faith over the next few years, what we see as our priorities and objectives, and what we intend to do to reach them.
Pastoral planning began late in 2006 with discussions in Pastoral Council on how to renew the parish. Council developed a Mission Statement setting out our identity and purpose as a parish. This statement was adopted by the community in March, 2008, and Council established a Pastoral Planning Team charged with developing a pastoral plan of action.
The planning process included:
- a parish survey to gather basic demographic data on the parish and to elicit parishioner's preferences, concerns and aspirations for the parish,
- interviews with former pastors, ministry leaders, pastors of other churches in Old Ottawa East, St Paul's University, etc.,
- a 'map' of the parish and Old Ottawa East based on data from Statistics Canada, the City of Ottawa and the Archdiocese of Ottawa,
- a review of parish finances and membership levels over the previous 10 years,
- two open houses to inform parishioners of progress being made and to obtain their views and advice,
- regular reports to Pastoral Council, and
- 26 meetings of the Planning Team.
The final draft was reviewed and accepted by Pastoral Council at its annual retreat with Finance Committee, on May 29, 2010. The formal launch of the Pastoral Plan took place on June 13, 2010, when it was presented in printed form to the parish at its Annual General Meeting.
This section contains the Pastoral Plan and the principal working papers and reports produced during the planning process.
